Renovation of doors in historic Parliament Building – where are we?

The renovation works in the Austrian Parliament Building are making progress. KAMPER has already installed 25 % of the doors within our project scope. Currently all these doors are being wired for electric drives and components. 40 additional doors have been successfully restored in our workshops and will be installed as soon as the other works in the building complex allow for this next step.

In the meantime, the historic doors from the main hall are being adapted in a pretty challenging way: These have to be split in half, are then equipped with a fire protection core and reassembled. What is more these doors will also be equipped to a large extend with complex floor spring systems, which have to be inserted into the historic natural stone floors of the Parliament Building and off course brought to full function.

Project manager Ing. Johannes Schatzer: “Currently our main challenge is to coordinate our installation works will all other crafts on site. These days only the outer sections can be worked at and overlaps cannot always be avoided.”

More to do for Kamper in the Austrian Parliament

Having been awarded the renovation of historic doors Kamper won the bid for further projects  in the Viennese Parliament: Kamper will furnish cabinet-making works including conference tables, modular tables and furniture for the National Council and the Federal Council Chambers. In 2019 the preparatory sampling procedure is scheduled while the actual production and fitting phases will stretch until the beginning of 2021. Project manager Johannes Schatzer: ”The dimension of the project and the various individual items is definitely thrilling: Tables with a length of up to 14m, ergonomically refined reception desks and the technical fit-out of deputies’ tables are far from normal. And all this will be produces in our workshops in Tillmitsch!”

KAMPER has been awarded the renovation works of historic doors in the House of Parliament Vienna

The Austrian House of Parliament is  more than 130 years old. Conceived supervised by architect Theophil Hansen the original construction works lasted from 1874 until 1883. With the years intensive repair works have become necessary and were begun back in 2017. In summer 2021 the Members of the Parliament and the staff are to return from their interim quarters in the Hofburg (the former Imperial Palace) and the office containers at Heldenplatz Square. KAMPER participated in the public tender procedure and was awarded the renovation of historic doors. Project manager Johannes Schatzer: “ Is it truly a pleasure that KAMPER has been chosen to contribute to the renovation of this historically significant building!”
